GLAMORGAN COUNTY RFC SILVER BALL REPORT 2026

This year over 106 clubs entered this prestigious competition. May I start by thanking all the clubs for their support and understanding in what was again a difficult season owing to some clubs unable to play, also due to the cup, and autumn internationals. The finish for the top eight was again very close with some teams losing out due to try count.

The first quarter final we saw Wattstown RFC take on Llandaff RFC, with Llandaff RFC winning by 21 points to 14 points in a game where the lead changed hands on more than one occation.  In the other quarter final, Tondu RFC took on Pontyclun RFC with Tondu winning by

55 points to 14 points fair play to Pontyclun who battled on till the final whistle. The third Quarter Final Llantrisant RFC took on a strong Bonymaen RFC with Bonymaen running out winners by 40 points to 12 points, In what was a cold windy night at Kenfig Hill RFC, Aberavon Quins RFC walk-overs after Deri RFC withdrew from the Competition after the draw had been done.

In the first semi final Tondu RFC were to strong for Llandaff RFC, with Tondu going on to win by 45 points to 10 points. The other Semi Final Bonyman RFC were awarded a Walk – Over After Aberavon Quins RFC withdrew from the Competition

In the final, Bonymaen RFC took on Tondu RFC, on a day of rain and sunshine with Bonymaen RFC Winning 18 points to 16 points in a very close entertaining game This year the under 12’s curtain raiser was another huge success after Tondu RFC u’12s Beating Pencoed RFC u12’s.

May I finish by thanking Bridgend Ravens RFC for allowing us the use of their facilities and their band of supporters club volunteers for assisting on the day, and all the other venues who hosted games, also to Banwen RFC (Highest Tries Scored in 10 Games 55 Tries) and all the clubs that entered the competition. and to my fellow committeemen for their help and support throughout the Season.We would also like to thank Mr Alan D Barham of Chemical Corporation for his continued sponsorship of the Silver Ball Competition. Mr Alan Franklin for his donation and Howden Insurance for sponosring the Silver Ball curtain raiser. This years prize money payout was, £5000 to the Winner, Finalist £2500, Semi Finalists £1500 and Quarter Finalists £500
